Day 8

Ride from Cromwell to Queenstown

This was one of our most incredible rides yet. We started out in the small town of Cromwell where we stayed one night, mostly because we couldn't make it from Omerama all the way to Queenstown (it would have been about 110 miles). So we began the ride from Cromwell by riding the Kawarau Gorge road. The road was absolutely stunning in terms of views, but quite narrow. I was glad for the single track experience I had acquired riding with Phil and Ray, as I found myself gripping the bars as I rode along the very narrow strip between the guardrail and the large series of double bottom dump trucks that I can only imagine must have been carrying manure. We nicknamed them the shit trucks and when we heard the rumble from behind we hunkered down and hoped for predictable road conditions. All the while, taking sneaking sideways glances to enjoy the incredible views...those views we will share with you without you having to endure the shit trucks!

Here are some photos to enjoy!DSCF0337.jpg
